For years, we used “Boss Mares” as an affectionate term for all the human herd leaders at our barn. This expanded to include many wonderful adult students, and we made lifelong friends through our Boss Mares clinics, lessons, and HorseSense classes.
Even though recent research has shown that horses have a flexible leadership dynamic in their herds, we still think the name is a pretty good metaphor for riding instructors … of any gender!

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!
