Effective instruction is all about asking students to THINK, which means we instructors ask a lot of questions!
Asking questions also has a hidden benefit: students get a little ping of achievement from every correct answer. This helps them remember the information. It also motivates them to learn more.
You want to be sure that your students learn all of the necessary terminology. You want them to understand all of the concepts. So you need to ask ALL of the right questions to find out what they’ve learned.
And you need to have those questions and answers readily available, in easy-to-use formats.
We’ve spent years compiling sets of questions and terminology for each Learning Level… so you don’t have to!
With TERMS and DEFINTIONS
Printable Level Up flashcards can be used for student self-study or for a variety of fun camp, clinic, and group lesson learning games.
All of the equine terminology and definitions are taken directly from the information in our students’ study guides.
Flashcards are designed to print on standard business card templates — but could just be printed on plain card stock and cut apart.
With QUESTIONS and ANSWERS
Level Up question card sets contain questions and answers for every objective in the Learning Levels curriculum.
Each card has both the question and the answer on one side, making them appropriate for both student self-study and learning games. Questions are taken directly from the information in our students' study guides to make sure that phrasing and keywords are consistent, which helps students verbalize and remember that information.
With either TERMS and DEFINTIONS or QUESTIONS and ANSWERS
All of the information contained in our flashcard and question card sets is also available as Level Up Lists.
You can use the lists to customize the questions and termiology for your particular instruction program. Just copy and paste the information into a new document and edit. You'll find editing tips on our How to Customize Learning Levels page.
With NUMBERED QUESTIONS
Every Level Up quiz contains a list of numbered questions — without answers — taken directly from our students' study guides. You can use the full set of questions and answers in the Level Up Questions List as your answer key.
Quizzes can be used as formal assessments for unmounted classroom programs or Level Up clinics, or just given to students as open-book horsey homework.

If your device can open a PDF file in a browser, then you should be able to resize and scroll the card or list pages sufficiently to read them without printing – handy for barn lessons!
You’ll need internet access (data or wifi) – unless you use an app that can open offline PDF files on your phone. Check your app store for options.
For best results, set your printer for standard color printing – and make sure your printer is not set to “shrink to fit”!
Cards are designed for a standard 2.5″ x 3″ business card template. We used Avery #8871, but any equivalent should work. You could also print on plain letter-sized card stock and cut them apart.
There is also a template for the optional back side of your cards.
