Hoof Condition Worksheet – Green HorseSense

Learning Levels Downloads

Helpful information about this resource:

Use this handy worksheet for unmounted lessons that teach students how to recognize visible changes in the equine hoof over time.

Students can record data about the horse, the hoof conformation, and the condition of the hoof at a particular point in the trim cycle – then repeat at intervals and compare the hoof assessments.

Can also be used for more advanced hoof care lessons that evaluate the effects of shoeing or trimming practices, equine conditioning, equine health care, nutrition, stable managment, etc.

PRO TIP: Students could also print the page, fill in the information, and keep a photo of their completed pages on mobile devices as part of an ongoing hoof care history.

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One former student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here. We’re also grateful for photos of Western riding donated by LLPro instructors – particularly Bit of Pleasure Horse School and Joyful Hearts Photography!

You’ll find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials graciously donated by our friend Rhonda Hagy. Evan Surrusco contributes additional illustrations and handles most of our photo processing. Contact us for information about their work.
