Green Level

Green Level is the third Learning Level

Green Level has two tracks: one in the mounted Horsemanship curriculum and one in the unmounted HorseSense curriculum.

In mounted lessons, Green Level students learn to ride the canter or lope, and begin to understand the importance of fitness and balance for both horse and rider.

Unmounted lessons add expanded detail to many of the concepts introduced in previous Levels, and introduce important new horse care skills.

We consider Green Level knowledge and horse care skills to be the minimum requirement for anyone who rides outside of lessons, whether or not they own/lease a horse.

GREEN LEVEL HORSESENSE

GREEN LEVEL HORSESENSE

The Green HorseSense Level expands the student’s knowledge of equine health and safety with basic first aid and stable management practices, conditioning for horse and rider, and rules for safe trail riding.

The Green Level HorseSense Study Guide is the “textbook” for this Level, giving students detailed information for every objective. If your schedule doesn’t include dedicated unmounted lessons, you can use this guide to get beginner horse care information to your students.

You’ll find a few ideas for teaching Green HorseSense lessons in this Boss Mares post: Unmounted Lessons Your Students Will Love.

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One former student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here. We’re also grateful for photos of Western riding donated by LLPro instructors – particularly Bit of Pleasure Horse School and Joyful Hearts Photography!

You’ll find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials graciously donated by our friend Rhonda Hagy. Evan Surrusco contributes additional illustrations and handles most of our photo processing. Contact us for information about their work.
