Purple Level HorseSense Study Guide – LLPro

Learning Levels Downloads

Helpful information about this resource:

Purple Level is the sixth step of the unmounted Learning Levels curriculum.

Purple Level HorseSense students begin to study different facets of equine management in depth. This study guide is designed to give students a foundation of detailed unmounted knowledge that can be used to become a responsible rider, trainer or horse owner.

Students will be able to understand and demonstrate show-quality grooming; to apply more advanced bandaging techniques; to evaluate longeing performance; to understand more advanced concepts of equine farrier and veterinary care; to identify daily horse management practices and safety issues related to trailering; to understand the economic realities of horse ownership.

To pass each requirement, students need to discuss and or demonstrate their knowledge confidently, showing a depth of understanding that would allow them to teach a subject or put it into practice.

The Purple HorseSense study guide provides a relatively brief overview of each topic’s important points, and encourages students to actively learn through repeated practice, discussion, and outside study from books, videos and credible online sources.

You can find a list of hand-picked resources at the end of the guide.

PRINT TIPS

This PDF file is formatted for full color two-sided desktop printing on 8.5 x 11” paper, with an 0.75″ inside margin suitable for loose-leaf binders.

57 pages

16.8 MB

Make sure your printer software is not set to “shrink to fit”!

Print the cover page separately on white card stock.

To create a booklet suitable for a 3-ring binder, print the remaining pages using duplex printing (on both sides of the paper) and a hole-punch. For best results, we suggest using 24-lb bright white paper stock. Thinner copy paper may not work well for two-sided printing.

You could also just print single pages as needed, or view the file online in your browser.

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One former student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here. We’re also grateful for photos of Western riding donated by LLPro instructors – particularly Bit of Pleasure Horse School and Joyful Hearts Photography!

You’ll find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials graciously donated by our friend Rhonda Hagy. Evan Surrusco contributes additional illustrations and handles most of our photo processing. Contact us for information about their work.
