The fifth Learning Levels Horsemanship study guide for mounted English riding lessons.
Orange Horsemanship is an intermediate level, designed to give students the ability to ride with balance and accuracy on the flat and over fences. Orange Level students can safely participate in mounted activities outside of lessons, while developing an appreciation for flatwork and equitation as well as consideration for the horse.
This Level asks students to perform flatwork exercises, with and without stirrups, maintaining light contact with an awareness of bend and balance; to develop a rhythmic canter over fences, through gymnastic grids up to 2’6″ and jump courses up to 2′ with smooth turns, good approaches, and correct leads; to ride with control in the open at a walk, trot, and canter and over cross-country obstacles up to 2’3″; and to confidently ride the hand-gallop.
