Learning Levels Instructor’s Starter Set – LLPro

Learning Levels Downloads

Helpful information about this resource:

Hit the ground running with this quick-start bundle of study guides and tracking tools for the first two levels of the Learning Levels curriculum.

Study guides can be used as “textbooks” for students in your mounted Horsemanship and/or unmounted HorseSense lesson program. Although currently written for English riding, guides are easily adapted for other riding styles.

Use the progress booklets to track your students’ progression through the Levels. We keep one official copy and give students their own copies of the booklets to take home, so everyone knows exactly what the next goals should be – including instructors, students, and parents!

Post the Achievement Charts in your barn to share each student’s progress and motivate them to learn more.

Once you have these basics in place, look through the Resource Center for mounted lesson plans, equitation patterns and course maps, unmounted teaching guides, certificates, games, worksheets, and more – all the things that can help keep your instruction program fresh and fun.

The zipped download file includes all of these resources – if you want to see more info about each item, just tap the link:

We use the study guides, along with our Teaching Guides and other educational resources, to provide detailed instructional content for unmounted classes or clinics — and for our students to study at home in preparation for lessons.

We’ve also found study guides to be an invaluable asset when coordinating instruction between multiple instructors or training assistants and barn helpers.

This PDF file is formatted for full color two-sided desktop printing on 8.5 x 11” paper, with an 0.75″ inside margin suitable for loose-leaf binders.

NOTE: This zipped file must be unzipped before you can open and print the study guides. You can find tips for using zipped files HERE.

Make sure your printer software is not set to “shrink to fit”!

Print the cover page separately on white card stock.

To create a booklet suitable for a 3-ring binder, print the remaining pages using duplex printing (on both sides of the paper) and a hole-punch.  For best results, we suggest using 24-lb bright white paper stock. Thinner copy paper may not work well for two-sided printing.

You could also just print single pages as needed, or view the file online in your browser.

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One former student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here. We’re also grateful for photos of Western riding donated by LLPro instructors – particularly Bit of Pleasure Horse School and Joyful Hearts Photography!

You’ll find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials graciously donated by our friend Rhonda Hagy. Evan Surrusco contributes additional illustrations and handles most of our photo processing. Contact us for information about their work.
