This is the comprehensive set of mounted lesson plans for Red Level Horsemanship in the Learning Levels equine curriculum, containing 22 lessons for beginner Western riders, with suggestions for modifications.
The lessons shared here have all been used in our riding school and can be adapted to suit students of any age.
What’s included in the Red Level Horsemanship plans?
- Twenty-two separate lesson plans. The first four cover introductory ground handling; the remainder are written as traditional mounted lessons.
- Unmounted skills include: horse safety, grooming, tacking up, haltering and leading.
- Mounted skills include: mounting and dismounting, basic balanced position, using natural aids to guide the horse at the walk, arena figures and etiquette, emergency skills, walking over ground poles, riding at the jog, and riding outside the arena on the leadline.
