Topics for Learning Levels

Learning Levels Downloads

Helpful information about this resource:

Updated to incorporate Western and HorseCentered curriculums!

Use this helpful taxonomy for the Learning Levels curriculums to plan efficient mounted and unmounted lessons.

The PDF download contains a simple list of all the topics, with revised definitions to incorporate our English and Western Horsemanship, HorseSense, and HorseCentered curriculums.

These are the same topics we use to categorize resources in the Resource Center. This makes it easy to find teaching materials for a specific Learning Levels objective — like hoof care or conditioning or tack — using the  Resource Center’s search form.

You’ll find a free list of all the topics and definitions on our Plan Lessons Using Topics page – but tucking this printable list in your lesson planning notebook (or saving the file to your desktop or mobile device) will make the whole process easier!

Pro-Tip: We organize our teaching resources in storage boxes labelled by Learning Levels Topic. This gives us quick access to all the materials needed to teach that particular subject, and keeps it organized.

We also use Topic boxes in our lending library, so our students have access to the materials for self-study.

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One former student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here. We’re also grateful for photos of Western riding donated by LLPro instructors – particularly Bit of Pleasure Horse School and Joyful Hearts Photography!

You’ll find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials graciously donated by our friend Rhonda Hagy. Evan Surrusco contributes additional illustrations and handles most of our photo processing. Contact us for information about their work.
