Model Horse Match-Up Game – Rainbow Level

Learning Levels Downloads

Helpful information about this resource:

Simple little hands-on activity to supplement an unmounted Horse ID lesson that introduces basic horse breeds, horse colors, or any other characteristics used to identify horses. Designed for Rainbow Level, but could be adapted for any identification critera in more advanced Levels.

Each printable page in this set has a diagram with 6 labelled “stalls” – one page is used for matching breeds, one page is for horse colors, and the “blank” page can be modified with your own labels. Students may work individually or collaboratively to place a model horse (or a printed card with a horse image) in the correct stall by matching it with the breed or color listed on the “stall door.”

Our students LOVE to play with our colorful collection of model horses! Alternatively, you could use our printable flashcard sets (see links below), or make your own flashcards using images cut from magazines and catalogs – or printed photos of the horses in your barn!

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One former student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here. We’re also grateful for photos of Western riding donated by LLPro instructors – particularly Bit of Pleasure Horse School and Joyful Hearts Photography!

You’ll find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials graciously donated by our friend Rhonda Hagy. Evan Surrusco contributes additional illustrations and handles most of our photo processing. Contact us for information about their work.
