Students use your old equine catalogs to “shop” for lists of items students would need to take care of a new horse. This activity is one of our longtime camp favorites — and a great way to reinforce unmounted lessons on tack and horse care. Adding up the total spent is usually an eye-opening experience!
Can be used for private lessons or as a fun group activity for Red Level, Yellow Level and Green Level students.
We’ve included four different lists of suggested items for students to find in their horsey catalogs:
- barn and riding apparel (Red Level)
- common items of English or Western tack (suitable for Red or Yellow Level)
- basic stable equipment (suitable for Red or Yellow Level)
- equine first aid kit (Green Level — but might still work for older students in Red or Yellow Levels)
