Horsey Shopping Spree Worksheets

Learning Levels Downloads

Helpful information about this resource:

Students use your old equine catalogs to “shop” for lists of items students would need to take care of a new horse. This activity is one of our longtime camp favorites — and a great way to reinforce unmounted lessons on tack and horse care. Adding up the total spent is usually an eye-opening experience!

Can be used for private lessons or as a fun group activity for Red Level, Yellow Level and Green Level students.

We’ve included four different lists of suggested items for students to find in their horsey catalogs:

  • barn and riding apparel (Red Level)
  • common items of English or Western tack (suitable for Red or Yellow Level)
  • basic stable equipment (suitable for Red or Yellow Level)
  • equine first aid kit (Green Level — but might still work for older students in Red or Yellow Levels)

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One former student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here. We’re also grateful for photos of Western riding donated by LLPro instructors – particularly Bit of Pleasure Horse School and Joyful Hearts Photography!

You’ll find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials graciously donated by our friend Rhonda Hagy. Evan Surrusco contributes additional illustrations and handles most of our photo processing. Contact us for information about their work.
