Horse for Sale Cards and Worksheets

Learning Levels Downloads

Helpful information about this resource:

Students in unmounted lessons use the Horse for Sale Cards and worksheets to learn how horses’ physical characteristics are accurately described, and to evaluate the information found in typical horse advertisements.

We’ve used these cards for a variety of activities in unmounted lessons and horse camps. They help Yellow Level students learn terminology for horse ID, breeds, colors and markings as they identify different horses.

Students in Green Level and up are ready to start practing some critical thinking about suitable horses. We use the horse ads to generate discussions of breed types and riding disciplines, and to emphasize the importance of gathering required information and consulting an instructor BEFORE leasing or buying a horse!

We’ve included a set of worksheets that can be used for both Yellow and Green Levels, and added a page of blank cards to the horse ads set that you can print to create custom horse ads.

Printable PDF file contains 10 pages with 4 cards per page, for a total of 40 cards; one page with 4 blank cards; worksheets and instructions.

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One former student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here. We’re also grateful for photos of Western riding donated by LLPro instructors – particularly Bit of Pleasure Horse School and Joyful Hearts Photography!

You’ll find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials graciously donated by our friend Rhonda Hagy. Evan Surrusco contributes additional illustrations and handles most of our photo processing. Contact us for information about their work.
