Care For Me Cards – Green Level

Helpful information about this resource:

Care For Me Cards are designed to prompt important discussions about equine stable management, providing Green HorseSense students with common scenarios inspired by our own horsekeeping challenges.

One of the most important horse care lessons students can learn is to look at the big picture: how does the horse’s environment impact his health and behavior?

Formatted like our popular Stuff Happens Cards, each card features a hypothetical horse with an issue that must be accommodated in a daily care, turnout and feeding routine. Students can simply draw cards at random and discuss how they would care for each horse. Or you can combine this exercise with a lesson in facility design by dealing several cards to each student and letting them discover if their imaginary horse farm is equipped to care for a horse with special needs.

Each card has a situation to discuss with students:

  • What is the problem here?
  • How could we prevent it?
  • What could we do to make the situation better for the horse?

All of the scenarios in these sets are based on the information in our study guides – in this case, the Green Level HorseSense Study Guide.

16 cards in this set.

We’ve been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood in sweltering/ freezing arenas, capturing lifelong memories of lessons, camps and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One former student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here. We’re also grateful for photos of Western riding donated by LLPro instructors – particularly Bit of Pleasure Horse School and Joyful Hearts Photography!

You’ll find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials graciously donated by our friend Rhonda Hagy. Evan Surrusco contributes additional illustrations and handles most of our photo processing. Contact us for information about their work.
