This zipped download file contains a printable PDF file for both the mounted Horsemanship and the unmounted HorseSense study guides:
— Green Level Horsemanship
— Green Level HorseSense
— printing instructions for study guides
GREEN HORSEMANSHIP GUIDE
Students begin the transition from passenger to thinking rider in this level, learning to evaluate safe riding conditions for their mounts and to recognize their influence on the horse’s movement and behavior. Green Level introduces the canter and an awareness of leads; provides equitation exercises on the flat and the development of smooth turns and good approaches over ground pole courses; introduces jumping over an 18″ crossrail; and emphasizes the need to develop a strong, balanced position before jumping courses.
GREEN HORSESENSE GUIDE
Students who learned basic terminology and safety rules in Red and Yellow Levels are now ready to apply that knowledge with some Green Level hands-on skills. The Green HorseSense guide expands the student’s knowledge of equine health and safety with basic first aid and stable management practices, conditioning, and rules for safe trail riding.
We consider the Green Level knowledge and horse care skills to be the minimum requirement for anyone who rides, whether or not they own/lease a horse.
Please note that this is a zipped file – you’ll need to extract the individual PDF files from the .ZIP file to open them. Detailed help will be available on the download page.
File size = 10 MB – You can learn more about our Study Guides here.
Both files in this collection are formatted for full color two-sided desktop printing on 8.5 x 11” paper, with an 0.75″ inside margin suitable for loose-leaf binders.
FOR EACH STUDY GUIDE:
To create a booklet suitable for a 3-ring binder, print the remaining pages using duplex printing (on both sides of the paper) and a hole-punch. For best results, we suggest using 24-lb bright white paper stock. Thinner copy paper may not work well for two-sided printing.
You could also just print single pages as needed, or view the file online in your browser.
Pro Tip: Printing instructions are included in the download file – but you can also see the step-by-step instructions HERE.
Too many to list here!

We have been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood out in a sweltering/ freezing arena – or slogged up and down our hilly pastures – capturing lifelong memories of camps, clinics, and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!
One such student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here.
You’ll also find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials (like study guides) graciously donated by Rhonda Hagy, who is a student and lifelong friend. Contact us for information about her work.
Are we lucky or WHAT?!
